What Happens at a Seed Swap?

What Happens at a Seed Swap?

You get to meet fellow gardeners: Selecting seeds for your garden may be fun, but swapping seeds with fellow gardeners is practically a party. It may be too early to get our hands dirty, but we can definitely “get in the weeds” about what we’re all planning to grow this year.

You’ll find unique seeds: Select from seeds from companies like Baker Creek, Seed Savers Exchange, Botanical Interests, Hudson Valley Seed Library and many more. Plus, you’ll find seeds saved from individual gardens and the PGP Seed Saving Garden. Gardeners are encouraged to bring saved seeds or leftover new or opened seed packets to share.

You will get a chance to grow something new: Have you been growing the same beans for the past few years? Try out a new variety – maybe you’ll be enticed by a beautiful seed packet, or overhear a gardener gushing about the fantastic taste of their favorite cultivar.

You’ll be able to get help: Expert Gardeners will be at the seed swap to answer questions and offer sowing tips. We’ll also have demonstrations for winter/early spring seed sowing, making your own seed starting mix, and cleaning seeds.

The event is free and open to the public but registration is appreciated.
